Questions:

Answers:
- Because its a lot easier and faster than you think
- As fast as you can go. On cable/dsl that's 1500/128 or 1500/384 expect speeds around 200-250k/s
- Just about anything, from movies,games,anime,vcd,svcd,iso's,text. The thing is people upload to the newsgroups, but it gets deleted automatically about every 3-5 days. So new stuff is always available but its not there for long.
Stuff you will need:
- A rar proggy, I've used Winrar and love it. It also does zip and a crapload of others so no need for winzip or other proggies.
- A newsgroup proggy, I've used Newsbin Pro and love it. It's not really suited for reading posts, just downloading the files.
- Smartpar, by far the most kick ass program I've ever used. It does error checking, and par files can be used to substitute missing rar files. So if you have 20 rar files to make a complete file, but say .r11,.r14,.r18 are missing/incomplete/corrupt, then you would need at least 3 par files to replace them, it doesn't matter the number of the par, it could be .p01,.p03,.p05 and it will still work!
Ok if you don't know how to install the programs tough, cuz if that's too difficult you don't need to be here.
Next, after you get newsbin installed and click cancel on all the register crap its going to ask you what your newsserver name is. Unfortunately this varies from isp to isp and for .edu people sorry ya'll don't have one. Anyways I'll try and put some of the more commonly used isp newsservers in here.
news-server.satx.rr.com <- is for San Antonio Texas Roadrunner
news-server.austin.rr.com <- is for Austin Texas Roadrunner
nntp <- is for Canadian Rogers @home cable
Ok so you should have something like this. But you won't have anything in groups yet.
Next is settings. Make sure automatic download is off and so on.
Goto preferences and Group options. On right under Get Latest Groups, click Download Groups.
Then below that next to groups, click on box. Some to look for are:
Alt.binaries.anime
Alt.binaries.anime.vcd
Alt.binaries.multimedia.anime
Alt.binaries.multimedia.anime.raws
Alt.binaries.multimedia.anime.repost
Alt.binaries.sounds.anime
Alt.binaries.multimedia.Japanese
Alt.binaries.multimedia.Japanese.repost
And so forth.
Then click on ok. Next is goto the group name on the left side middle part and double click.
It will download list of available stuff on right side. Notice Hikaru no Go ep31 and then the file name.
Notice the par files, .P04,.P05 and the rar, part01.rar, part02.rar, click on the box to the left to download.
Right below are tabs, to see download list, failed files etc. Comes in handy.
Then goto where you installed newsbin, usually c:\program files\nbpro, goto download folder and goto group you were download from. Ok now open smart par to check if file is complete with no errors.
Ok so for a good file it looks like this
Completed 13/13 Good:13 is very good, but if you have some Bad it will automatically use the pars, provided you have enough of them, to complete the files. Next for this one I open .rar
Now simply left Click on the file, hold and drag to desktop and release. It will automatically rejoin the file from the rest of the rar's. After that you can delete the rar/par for that file. Enjoy!!
