Translator Requirements
- Translators are preferred to be fluent in Japanese and English and willing to translate one script a week.
- No experience is required for translators as we are willing to teach you the ropes.
- Native Japanese speakers are welcome but preferably with some English under their belts.
- If Japanese is not your first language and you've learned it through school or own your own, please evaluate your skills before applying. Listen to an episode you haven't watched and try to translate a script for it to see how well you can do. Reading skills are also required to translate episode titles and on screen text.
Basic Timing Requirements
Pre-requisites for timer applicants:
- Finish an average 300 line script in under four hours.
- Fine/scene time the episode. If you don't know what that is look it up and come back when you're experienced at it.
- Time according to most of our groups standards (reference in the end of this txt file) or have an acceptable timing style we can work with.
- Communicate and get along well with the team (lack of social skills can sometimes pose a huge obstacle).
Timing Standards and Preferences
- Time with few flash gaps. We want lines linked together that are < .5 seconds apart.
- Split lines the translator has put together. If there are two sentences in a line on the script, don't make a subtitle timing that's over 10 seconds.
- Preferably adding consistent lead-out and lead-in times. Lead in times should be around one tenth of a second unless a line ends soon before it. Lead-out times should allow time for the line to end and not abruptly end with the dialogue.
- Scene Timing: subtitles that 'bleed' over a scene changed should be clipped at the scene change. You should be able to scan the video and fix these.
Raw Provider Requirements
- Previous experience is good but if you meet the following requirements please apply.
- If you have only used BT and/or WinMX to find raws DO NOT apply.
- You must be comfortable with changing the system region of your computer.
- We WILL NOT teach you how to find raws unless you are on a fast connection that is not firewalled and has bandwidth you can use.
- You must be able to find and send us a raw soon after the episode airs.
- Again, a fast connection (+50KB/s upload) is preferred.
Editor Requirements
- A working knowledge of english grammar.
- There is a pre-test and a regular test that will be given to everyone.
- Please note there are standards we work with but those will be explained in detail after you pass the pre-test.
Typeset Requirements
- Skilled in Substation and Advanced Substation Alpha coding
- Able to do a good looking op/ed karaoke in two days from scratch
- Ability to grab Japanese text and kanji from a file, convert it to Shift-JIS, and karaoke it
- Able to shift op/ed's continually for a series
- Preferable skills in fine timing and encoding
Quality Control Requirements
- You must pass the editor test.
- An understanding of typeset, timing, and encode errors.
Programmer Requirements
- A lot of programming experience (preferably in any programming language that can cope well with DirectX.
- Preferably a good understanding of SubStationAlpha or AdvancedSubStation (SSA, ASS) scripts that go with TextSub.
- Mostly we'll be asking for text manipulation scripts for use with typeset effects. This involves text replacement and timing manipulation.
Reminder: you have to convince us that you'll fit well in the group, so let your l33t skillz run wild. ^_~
Also, if you're on dial-up, please don't apply. Sending of raw files will take too long and hinder the process.
