Full Version: Doujinshi! (and no, I'm not talking about porn)

Inuyasha doujinshi! Who's got 'em, who wants 'em? What's your favorite circle? I'm a big fan of Rin's Brand and China House...so cute ^^

(And before anybody tears into me, let me clarify: doujinshi = independently published comics. NOT just hentai with pre-existing characters. Generally doujinshi are parody or fluff books about popular characters or an original story by someone who isn't published through a "big name" company. So repeat after me kiddies: DOUJINSHI != HENTAI!!!)

I like doing my own doujinshi.
And I encourage my friends to draw,
'cus even if they suck at it,
you can draw in your own damn style!

Kanna is fast becoming my favorite villian-esque character if only because of her depiction in some doujinshi. It's so easy for the authors to make her a weird twisted evil little kid - it's great happy.gif

Evil Chibiz!! I LOOOOVE doujinshi! The cute ones, the funny ones, and even the...*other* ones. Hehehehe... I just wish I could draw as well! One of my favorite doujinshi has a REALLY talented artist--it's almost perfect art that makes the characters look especially good! But then again, there are the doujinshi that actually pull off making Jaken look cute...that's just crazy-mad skillz!

Eek...I hope I'm not offending anyone by bringing up an old topic (heh, I've been an admin before, and it's a peeve of mine), but I just found this forum, and you mentioned Inuyasha doujinshi. happy.gif I love Inuyasha doujinshi! My favorite is actually an American Inuyasha doujinshi called The Hero in the 21st Century. Has anyone else ever read it? It's really good! I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it, but it loosely parodies old-style Japanese fairytales (the kind that end in tragedy for those involved). The woman who works on it put a lot of work into it, so it really goes along with what's going on in the series. If you haven't read it, then tell me! I'll gladly give the link!

Side note: it's still a work in progress. Batey-san said that there are 40 books total, and she does have most of them done, but it may take a bit to get them out since she works at a university and also because she just found out that she has cancer. But once you read it, you are hooked. It's well worth the time spent reading.

Hrm...actually go ahead and post that link if you would. I'm afraid I've lost track of her site :-/ Still, it's an interesting thing to note the difference between your American doujinka and the Japanese set...the whole webcomic phenomenon can in some ways be linked to the lack of a developed comic industry in the US. Instead of finding a small place to print out your comics, many people have started on the web -- and eventually gone to print from there, like Megatokyo ^_~ (And in case any of you are living under a rock and don't know about megatokyo, try heading to http://www.megatokyo.com to find out.)

That reminds me, web comics! What do y'all suggest? I enjoy Strange Candy, RPG World , and Errant Story (though youngsters should be warned away from Errant Story, it has some "mature" content to it tongue.gif )
Naishin_no_Miko
Ahh! I love MegaTokyo!! Good choice of webcomics there! ^_~

I read Strange Candy, and I also read The Life of Riley, Penny Arcade, and 8 Bit Theatre. Heh, I'm working on getting my own webcomic up (whenever my scanner decides to work with WinXP dry.gif ), but it's in very early development. And it's weird. O_o;;

Here's Batey-san's site for all who want to read: The Hero in the 21st Century

I have some MiroSan doujinshis. I love doujinshis as long as they're well drawn and stay in-character.

Cool. I love Fred/Piro, he's awesome. If a little self-depreciating. I actually got the chance to see him at the Very First Megatokyo panel two years or so ago, and it was hilarious--I accidentally spooked some of the panel participants by being the "accidental" Piro cosplayer. (The strip where Piro gets the cat ears and tail had *just* come out the previous week, and I was running around the con with cat ears, a tail, a Megatokyo shirt, and jeans. Unfortunately, I then got nervous while trying to ask for an autograph and ended up wrenching the tail around in front of me--exactly the way the comic-Piro had done happy.gif;; It was all kinds of embarrassing when people pointed it out.)

[Edit: It just occurred to me this post was useless, but I thought of something useful to add: doujinshi translations! I've done a few, and once I finish some outstanding junk I swear I'll get around to making them available on the web. Ideally though, I'd like to start a Great Doujinshi Translation Project. Would anyone be interested? Would anyone like to help? Part of the problem I have is figuring out how to make a good webpage for it...I have the html skillz of a wet paper bag. tongue.gif]

Ooh.. a Doujinshi Translation Project.
That sounds awsome, Bakadeshi.
I'd love to help you with that....
but I have no html skills what so ever.
I know html, but I just can't do it. I suck.
It allways goes wrong.
But tell me if I can do something else.
Or just tell me to shut the hell up.

Otherwise for you out there who thinks html is hard,
go to Free Webz. I don't know if it's the right adress....
But there you get like 100 mb to put up,
and you can create the website quite easy.
