First of all great job with the subbing of Samurai Champloo. I love the editors notes as well.
I've never had any problem with playing any of your Samurai Champloo releases. I use vlc player and normally everything works fine.
For some reason though part of episode 21 freezes.
At exactly 21 minutes and 36 seconds the video starts slowing and then freezes. The next thing i see is the black screen with "to be continued" on it at time sequence 21minutes 41 seconds. I know its only five seconds i've missed but i think it's quite consequential to the story

The last thing I see is mugen pick up Sara's three pointed sword and then the screen freezes. So i have no idea what he does with it. Does he kill Sara, commit suicide?
######End of Spoiler######
If anyone could shed some light on why this is happening or if anyone has a solution that would be great. For now if someone could tell me what actually happens during those five seconds that would be helpful also.
thanks for any help

Uhm... I've got the same problem with VLC, but BSPlayer or MediaPlayer work just fine.

Same problem in the same spot? Interesting.
I would have otherwise suggested hopping back on the torrent and making sure the file downloaded completely. You may want to try that anyway.

I can't watch ep21 at all. I've never had any problems with any of your releases. However, for some reason 21 is giving me problems. Upon opening the file it will go for about 8 seconds then it will skip into the episode like 30 secs then 1 min then 15 and 20 and so on. I get no visual except for the first 8 seconds then it just skips around. I use winamp to watch sam sham and have never had any probs before. It seems to work with VLC(have not watched the whole thing because I have not seen 20 yet.) but have the same probs when I play it through WMP. The obvious answer would be just use VLC but if possible I'd like to use winamp. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Yep, exactly at the same spot, and it's not a download problem, since I checked the CRC with QuickSFV

First of all, try going to koepi.org and make sure you have the latest XVID binary isntalled..
Also, iy might be codec conflicts, if you have divx and xvid installed together.

Actually i had to completely reinstall my OS on my computer a couple of days ago so as far as playing media goes all i've got around to installing is WMP 9, Quicktime, bs player and vlc player with absolutely no codecs.
llafranc said it works in WMP so i downloaded the latest XVId earlier today and it works fine. However still the same problem with vlc player.
So its not codecs conflict as i only have one installed (aside from the preinstalled windows ones).
It doesn't matter anyway it works in WMP and i know what happens now.
Thanks for the help though.

The good thing about VLC player is that it uses its own codecs without bothering about those installed in the system, but this also means that anyone trying to watch this episode with VLC will probably have this problem.

ok i reproduced this problem myself with the original file on the computer that was used to create it and this sems to be an issue with vlc player only.

Reporting: VLC for Windows and for Mac OSX show the same issue.
Mplayer did not.
EDIT: I examined the final encode with several tools, I did not find a single error. It seems to be a bug in VLC player. Sorry, it is dissapointing that such a good player is failing to do what it is supposed to do: play a video w/o a hiccup.

So in my situation no matter which media player I use it wont work? I still have not watched the ep but from the sound of it, VLC will cut me off at 21 mins or whatever.

Either you live without the five seconds cut off by VLC, or you solve your own codec problems

try using
media player clasic, it is similar to vlc player in that it uses its own codec however i have confermed that it doesnt have the freezing issue.

Well thank you very very much CMOS, your advice is very much appreciated. The skipping problem does not happen at 8 seconds any longer. I quickly scanned through the ep and put it around 21 mins and it did'nt freeze. So until I can sit down and enjoy the ep in it's entirety, it would seem that the problem is solved. Again much thanks.

CMOS....ehm...don't know how to say this.... I just downloaded and tried MPC out of curiosity (could be a valid alternative to other players...) and not only it freezes, but it also crashes. Weird, isn't it?

I used Real Player & it worked fine. Codecs drive me crazy, though. Works in one player, doesn't in another...augghhh!

Okay, my problem is really weird - the file seems to play just fine, except there's no video. at all.
I tried Windows Media, Winamp, Divx Player, and Windows Media Classic. All of them have audio, but no video.
Any ideas?

Just to sum up what's been said until now...
1) The file is ok and has no encoding errors
2) vlc player works fine but for five seconds at the end of the episode
3) Everything else seems related to codec conflicts problems on the machine used to play the video.
I'd say you should follow tuxedojericho's advice and install the latest XviD codec.

good summation llafranc, im really sorry to hear that mpc didn't fix the problem on all computers though. I've heard reports that mplayer doesn't have this issue and it is also a player that doesn't depend on your installed codecs however it has a command line only interface so i advise getting your codecs in order instead.
llafranc
Feb 20 2005, 01:27 AM
Actually mpc does use built-in filters (there's an option to enable/disable this feature for all filters separately). The problem is that the last version of mpc is dated March 27 2004, so it's probably out-of-date regarding codecs.
EDIT: uhm... I don't see XviD/DivX in the option list, though

and yeah, the episode was pretty good, but has anyone else noticed that Jin and Mugen look very different in the newer episodes? Did they change animation companies somewhere along the way?
