The Results of this poll will determine if it is worth my time as a Samurai Champloo fan to create a special SOMETHING for not only you, but also in appreciation to AF for making S.Champloo available to us.

Oddly enough, I wasn't a hip-hop fan at all before seeing the show. I'm still pretty timid about seeking out new stuff, but I have picked up the two OSTs and consider myself a rabid FORCE OF NATURE fan now.

I listen to just about anything really, but I've been listening to hip-hop longer than anything else.

I like all kinds of music. Really, I can grow to like anything, I just need time to listen to it. I'm more of a J-Pop (I've Sound) fan and italian Dance Trance these days. But i can adjust. =D
The tracks on the Samurai Champloo OSTs are really nice.

heheh sorry dude...think of "Hip hop" containing R&B and Reggae =)
basically when i made up the choices..I tried to compound them as best as i could.
If i decided to break it down properly, i would've had nearly 50+ Genre's of music to choose from and that wouldn't be very pleasing. It's just a short and sweet poll i tried to conduct. =)

First of all, I'd like to say I firmly believe there is a difference between Hip-Hop and Rap. Rap sucks. That said, I like Hip-Hop, which is what Samurai Champloo has. I also like Trip-Hop, a slightly more obscure but related genre (Portishead is the best example, and also Tricky). Interestingly, Samurai Champloo is not the first media I've seen to couple samurais and Hip-Hop--there's a movie that came out a while back called Ghost Dog that I'd highly recommend and that connects these themes. Also the Mafia, if you can wrap your head around that--it makes sens if you see the movie.
In all honesty and being specific though I mostly listen to (old-school) Alternative Rock, Industrial, Jungle, and some kinds of House. I enjoy Hip-Hop but I rarely actively seek it out.

There is actually 1 difference between Hip-Hop and Rap. It's that Hip-Hop is a culture that englobes breakdance (dance),graffin' (visual art), scratchin' (music) and rap (vocal art). So Rap is basicly Hip-Hop even thought it can't be the opposite.
metal(system of a down, korn, adema), rock(von bondies, garbage, white stripes,) techno/metal(rob zombie, powerman 5000)

I'm into almost everything short of metal. And very little rap. Hip-hop, the kind in SC, is acceptable, as long as there are few lyrics, then I consider it 'rap'.

(is it alright to reply to a thread that had its last post over 2 months ago?)
Yeah, i'm mainly into Hip-Hop. it's my fave genre of music.
Hip hop is a culture. it can be split up into 4 elements:
BBoying (otherwise known as "breakdance" (tho bboys/bgirls tend to divide themselves from mere 'breakdancers'), it's the dance)
eMCeeing (otherwise known as "rap" (tho MC's tend to divide themselves from mere 'rappers'), it's the language)
DeeJaying ("Scratching", "Turntablism", "beat boxing" etc. it's beat production, basically. it's the music)
Graffing (Graffiti. with style. more for recognition, rather than destruction (ie. neo-nazi graffiti). it's the visual art)
I've never understood what trip hop is... what is that? :/
oh... and since this thread's about music. i wanna ask. i've got the original two osts (dl'd), masta and departure. is there any place where i can download the second two osts? namely, impression and playlist/play. thnx.
if i'm not allowed to ask this, let me know, so i can edit this out of my post, or do it for me, whatever.

Try BoxTorrents.com. You'll have to register there, which does'nt take long. The torrent has all 4 ost's plus the YOU single. So you'll have to dl the 2 you have over again. The torrent is of good quality and should'nt take long as theres quite a few seeders there at Box. Hope this helps.

I listen to a lot of Indie Rock, but I have gained a respect for orchestrated music from my younger years when I listen to only anime/RPG soundtracks. As long as the music is well done I'll give credit where credit is due, but for example, when I think of rap I know that it takes very little musical, if any, to make rap, hence why I generally don't like it, I also can't stand generic bands (Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace), with these bands either, every song sounds the same or the music just isn't that great lyrically or instrumentally, meaning it takes little talent to create.
P.S.- Sorry I made that into an opinion speel kind of, and if I offended anyone with it please forgive me. I'm not trying to force my opinions on anyone, I am just stating them. *bows*

seems like peeps are gettin gangsta rap and rap mixed up, it is indeed one of the four elements that make up the hip hop culture. rappin comes from 'toastin' which is what djs and emcees used to call vocal performance at dub and dance hall events in jamaica.
i listen to all styles of music, and i am a big hip hop fan .... i would love to see samurai champloo 'remixed' by djs and visual art performers .... the scratch mixing of scenes was an excellent idea.

I usually listen to everything. Depends on the mood.
Not a huge fan of rap, but there are a few things I like to listen to once in a while too.
It depends on the song itself as in music + lyrics. Dont really care what style it can be attributed to.
If its good, ITS GOOD!
