Full Version: Who Is Your Favorite Minor Character?
#Animeforever > Animeforever Closed Projects > Inuyasha
Shiori
I have seen lots of threads hailing Sessh and Inu Yasha and the other main characters, but what about the ones that only appear once or twice or make appearances every now and then? Who do you think deserves recognition? Well, I think Shiori (the bat hanyou that created the big barrier) is just cool. She is a cute little hanyou with awesome eyes and strong powers for such a little girl. I would also have to say Totousai (the blacksmith/sword maker) is just cool. I love his flying cow and he's just a funny old man. biggrin.gif
Houshi_Sama
Those 2 mikos-in-training who created the huge Inuyasha and Kagome dolls. They were hilarious.
SaNkOn-TeSsOu
Goshinki....I think he was the most vile of all of Naraku's Detachments......he was telepathic and broke the Tessiaga.
Shiori
I think I remember Goshinki. Wasn't he the giant ogre that Inu Yasha killed when he was full demon and his tooth was used for Sessh's sword?
Patrioil
I would love to say my favorite is Myouga,
'cus he looks so much like Happousai in Ranma½! laugh.gif
I'm just waiting for him to come to Kagome's time and steal some underwear!
I so hope that happens soon! Mwohahahahahaha!!

But my favorite would be Kagome's mom.
She is the #2 coolest person in Inuyasha!
And she looks so much like Akane's mom... in Ranma½...
everything in Inuyasha reminds me of Ranma½... tongue.gif

Edited (to the below post... I didn't want this to be a oneliner) :
THANK GOD Shiori!
Finally someone agrees on that the Ranma½ manga is better than the anime,
the anime is clearly not as fun as the manga... no way...
Shiori
Ranma is a cool manga/anime too. I liked the manga more than the anime really. But I agree with Patrioil, Kagome's mom is just plain cool, and Myouga is just hysterical. cool.gif

BUYO!!!!!!!!! or however you spell it tongue.gif
He is one of my favorite characters in the show and I am offended none of you have said him yet. With out him Kagome would not have even fallen down that well! I love the seen where Inuyasha is playing with them, it is so cute! happy.gif
JimmyV
I had have to go with the day-dreamer friend of Kagome's. Everyone has that spacey out in left field friend.

Also, Kouga's side kicks are great too.

Kohaku, if he still counts as a minor character with his exposure in recent episodes, is definitely my favorite. He's got tons of potential--I just wish Takahashi would tap into more of that potential. Heck, I'd even settle for a filler episode set around him.

I can't really explain why I like him--I didn't until I saw eps 49 and 50. Until then, I just thought of him as a more-or-less useless character (if he could be called a character--I thought of him more as a Plot Device). Maybe it was seeing him show off for that sweet old couple, using his kusara kama (that's the technical name for his chain scythe weapon, I've heard) to chop wood for them. And the way he ran off later that night when the youkai found him and he knew he would be putting them in danger by staying... it was pretty cool, and pretty brave, and it just endeared me to him. He didn't have his memories, but he was still a sweet kid. And he kicks a lot of arse for someone as young as he is.

That does it, I'm switching to a Kohaku avatar--he needs more support. biggrin.gif
Ethereality
The two mikos in training. They were awesome, in more ways than one. rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

And also Mouten and her little dragon thing. That was a classic episode.
MirokuKun
My favorites:

The younger sister of the Thunder Bros., Mouten, and her baby dragon minion from Shippou's Battle Royale.

Mouten: "You screwed up!"
Dragon: "I'm sorry, mistress."

laugh.gif That cracks me up. And Shippou and Mouten's children's toys attacks.

Next favorite (as the others mentioned): The two mikos in training.

Kagome: "Stop calling that thing Kagome!"

I think it's also an underappreciated bit of direction for animation. Did anyone else catch the super-sized chibi Inuyasha and Kagome doing exagerated versions of their usual expressions in the background? And super-sized chibi Kagome doing a little dance at one point?

Usually, animation directors, especially for a TV series, will leave the background pretty static to save time & money, but he went out of his way to make it interesting.
Patrioil
I were about to mention Buyo,
but I felt a little mean to my cats... tongue.gif
Even though Buyo is just as fat as one of them.

I like Ginta and Hakkaku too,
I've allways liked them...
can't remember why I didn't mention them.
Ginta's voice is superb, by the way...

And I also like Kagome's spaced out friend.
Ayumi? Ayaka? What's her name now again?
They mentions it once I believe...
when they start fantasising about IY, Kouga and Miroku.
Miroku looks pretty good in that lightblue suit. laugh.gif

But I'll still say Kagome's mom is the best!
Awsome power to the max! That's Kagome's mom.
(what am I talking about?)
Shiori
I forgot about the little dragon!!! Man I need to watch the series again. You all are right, Buyo is the best cat ever. If I had a cat, I would want it to be like Buyo, but I have a dog that is afraid of cats, so no cat for me tongue.gif

It's Ayumi, I think. I like her too, she's just so clueless! And Miroku looks good in anything, so I have to agree there too. wink.gif

Anyone remember Juuroumaru and Kageroumaru (whose names will forever be impossible to spell) from ep 46? They were some of the creepiest baddies yet, I loved them. Though Goshinki was also great--it's a shame he didn't have more screentime before youkai Inuyasha ripped him to shreds. I like all of Naraku's offspring except maybe Kanna, I think...

And people have mentioned Mouten, but I can't believe no one here has mentioned Hiten and Manten! For such early-on villains, they were great. I still see Hiten fanfics and shrines and such occasionally here and there.

I also like Mushin-sama very much. I hope we'll get to see more of him sometime... he only made one appearance in the entire series. I'd love to see an episode maybe showing more of Miroku's childhood, living with the old drunkard. tongue.gif

The Hapless Monks (that's what I call them--the two guys who made little appearances in practically every episode of the early Shichinin-tai arc... the poor saps kept getting chased off by the Shichinin-tai and such) are pretty funny. I liked that little brat Taromaru from ep 27 too. And people have already mentioned Ginta, Hakkaku, Buyo, and Mouten's adorable little dragon sidekick.

Actually, I think I like pretty much every side character there is--except for Mayu, the incredibly annoying little dead girl from episode 12 or such. I almost wanted her to actually go to hell. >_<
Chichiri no Miko
I dunno..would Rin count? I love Rin!!!..if not Rin then I would have to say that it's a tie between Souten..(or Mouten..I'm pretty sure her name was Souten though) and her dragon, and The two mikos..they were sooooooooooooooo cute!!^^...I guess you can tell I have a thing for cute stuff...yeah Those mikos were adorable. They kept calling Kaede a demon biggrin.gif ..oh the wonderful ness of it all..OH!! One more..MouMou..he rocks..That cow is the most awesomest character in the world..I wanna have a cow that appears out of a lighting bolt and can fly around on a cloud!!!
Patrioil
No one seems to remember that the little dragons name was Koryuu. tongue.gif
I loved his voice so much! He is one of the cutest sidekicks ever!

I loved Manten to death! I cried when he died!
It was so sad... why did he have to die?
All he wanted was to have hair like his Hiten-anchan!

Mushin-sama reminds me of a friend of my mom... hehe.
I took a pic of him when he was SO loaded! *LOL*
My dad took the pic off of the refrigerator, though...
Bankotsu-sama
Goshinki was likely the best minor character, by far one of the most interesting episodes was the one he was in.

At least he spilled some blood from IY and broke his sword.
He also pimp slapped that silly Houshi.

If you ask me keeping him around would have been alot more interesting than
stupid characters like Kagura and Kanna.
Patrioil
You're totally missing the point of these IY characters.
Goshinki may have been strong, but he had no background.

Kagura wants to be set free from Naraku,
and it's cute that she sees IY as her only hope.
Kanna is just a freaky touch of the story. tongue.gif
I love her whispering... I actually like her.
I think Kagura is a really interesting character...
I can't wait to see what happens to her.
dip
I would say my favorite is Kouga! He is SO cute, especailly with a tail. I can't see why Kagome wouldn't fall for him! I would if i were her. My sencond favorite is definataly Kagome's mom, and brother. biggrin.gif tongue.gif
Bankotsu-sama
Well they should have given him background then.

IY fighting the same chick four or five times and not being able to kill her is just plain sad.

Doesnt make him out to be very tough, makes him look like a chump who cant even kill a girl with multiple chances.
Spectrum
Well, the only reason Inuyasha hasn't killed Kagura yet (I'm assuming you're talking about her) is that she keeps running away. She's not really worth his time anymore, and they both know that.

Besides, I have a feeling Inuyasha knows Kagura isn't as bad as she acts...

But I agree it would have been great to see Goshinki stick around longer. He was everything a bad guy should be. He was powerful, evil, and the way he used his ability to read minds was a great finishing touch. Sure, Inuyasha's killing him was a great demonstration of how powerful his youkai form was, but it was also a bit of a waste of an enemy who had lots of potential.
Ethereality
I also like Kanna a lot. Her voice sounds empty and emotionless, just like it should. I'll bet they'll screw it up in the dubs though... Somehow.
Spectrum
I'm sure the dubs will screw everything up. >_< Have you heard the voice they gave to poor Rin? They've done a decent job casting the other main characters, but not so good for most of the side charas...

I've got a bad feeling about poor Kagura and Kanna's dub voices. sad.gif

I would laugh if Kanna's dubbed voice was some valley girl's like Kagome's...

Kanna: "Did you see that? I, like, reflected the Kaze no Kize and it, like, totally messed up that Inuyasha dude. SWEETNESS."

Nah, Kagura is evil. Just because she wants to be free from Naraku doesn't mean she's any less evil than Naraku's other minions. It just means that she's more free-spirited.

This caused me to fall out of my chair. Just had to say that.

I know this is weird, but I really liked Juuroumaru...but just for stupid reasons like his clothes and long hair. And the way he didn't talk. Kageroumaru scared the hell out of me, though.

Goshinki isn't one of my favorites...when he appeared, I was thinking the same thing Kagura was thinking. Then he could read minds. Meh, I'm just a stereotyping...bad thing. unsure.gif

I don't think she's as evil as the others. I think she's just doing what needs to be done so that oneday she can hopefully be free, and not get killed by Naraku or anyone else until then. Remember, she was keeping shards from him, and keeping all kinds of other secrets. She knows when Inuyasha's time of the month is also, and I think if she were truly evil, she would have done something about it now.

I think once Naraku is destroyed, she'll calm down a lot. I'm sure she won't join the "good guys", but I think she'll become a really gray character, like Sesshoumaru and Kikyo.

As for my favorite side characters... I definitely liked Shoryu the little dragon, and I really like Hakakku and Ginta, Kouga's sidekicks. They're just so goofy and loveable.

Kouga's pretty cool too. I don't see why everyone hates him so much. Granted, he's a pain in the ass, but I think he's realized it's a lost cause with Kagome, he just still continues to be annoying because he likes to get Inuyasha riled up, and because he really does care for Kagome, even if she won't be his woman.

I like Tatarimokke too, that big yellow blob that takes care of children's souls. He's so creepy looking, and I LOVE the song he plays on that flute thing.
Spectrum
Like UFO9 said, I really don't think Kagura's quite as evil as the rest of the villains. There have been a lot of little hints that besides for being a free spirit, she's just not as bad as they are, although she definitely had her really evil moments earlier on. When Goshinki first appeared, and was destroying that village to lure Inuyasha and the others, she seemed to feel just the slightest hint of guilt... she suggested that he "just leave one or two kids." And she's warned Kohaku more than once not to get on Naraku's bad side if he wants to live long. If she were a normal villain and only cared about her own freedom, she wouldn't have even bothered to talk to him--she'd just see him as a useless human brat that also happened to be under Naraku's control.

And then, of course, like UFO9 also mentioned, there's the fact that she didn't tell Naraku about Inuyasha's human time. Of course, we know that she wants Inuyasha to kill Naraku, but it still shows she's not completely evil.

She does seem to have it in for Kouga, though. wink.gif

Houshi_Sama
Hmm, you guys make some good points about kagura not being as evil as the others...

BTW, I once read somewhere on this board that someone thought Kagura might have the hots for Sesshomaru? Wouldn't that be a doozy if they had kids? Their kids would be the ultimate incarnation of pseudo-villains.
Spectrum
Heh, yeah I've seen people talk about that as well, and I agree that she might have a bit of a crush on him or something. She seemed mighty impressed by Sesshoumaru the first time she saw him, and even after he refused to help her kill Naraku, she continued to think about him on occasion.

Don't know that he would ever like her. But I dunno, maybe if and when Naraku is defeated and she's still around, maybe he'll let her join his little posse (he seems to have a lot of admirers, ne?) and tag along every so often.

QUOTE

Tell me about it. laugh.gif
Patrioil
The fact that Kagura doesn't fight IY for real says a lot.
Since Sesshoumaru-sama refused to help her,
she sees Inuyasha as her only hope right now... ne?
But I would like to see her and Sesshoumaru-sama together. tongue.gif
I've allways thought that ever since I saw them talk face to face.
No... now I got "Face to Face" with Daft Punk on my mind!
Shiori
My boyfriend really likes Kagura and I think she is pretty cool. I like the sound of her name too, kinda rolls off your tongue. tongue.gif
Spectrum
All the more reason to be ticked at the dub if they change the pronunciation of her name, though. mad.gif

(I know this is a one-liner, but there was no point in making it longer, so...)

Favorite minor character: Kagome's mom!! She rocks ^_~ What a spiffy mom...
Guesses on Kagura's dubbed name:
~Kuh-GER-uh
~Kuh-GOO-ruh

It's really not that difficult, if only they'd try smiley_cry.gif Immitating Kagome: "Watashi wa Kagura, KA-GU-RA!" ^^

Well.... at least part of the post was amusing ^^ I didn't like Goshinki... I did a happy dance when he got owned by Inuyasha. And boy did he get OWNED. Inuyasha didn't even need a sword. Silly pompous mind-reading youkai...

So you're a chump if you don't kill women? I think it's rather nice of Inu-chan ^^ Even though... I think he and the Inuyasha-gumi realize that she's really not evil. She's just misguided ^^
Besides... girls can kick ass too! ~waves her katana around all spiffy like and sheathes it with a flourish~

You know, I was wondering, just how powerful were the Thunder Beast brothers? The very first Inuyasha episode I ever saw was the 2nd ep featuring Hiten and Manten, and at first, I thought Hiten and Manten were hella badass, with their huge lightning attacks and stuff. But after I saw the episode with Souten the Thunder Beast kid, I thought a little about it and I realized that they weren't what I had originally thought. Hiten and Manten had 5 shikon shards between them, and they still couldn't beat Inuyasha+Kagome when Inuyasha hadnt even mastered Kaze no Kizu yet. Although Hiten probably messed around too much against Inuyasha.

And Souten and Shippou, who are probably about the same age, seemed about equal in power. So I'm guessing that an adult Thunder Beast (minus Shikon shards) would probably be as powerful as an adult fox youkai like Shippou's father?

Also, although people bash Shippo for being weak, I don't think Shippou and his foxfire will be a total slouch when he grows up. After all, his father's foxfire did protect Shippo and Kagome from Hiten's huge lightning blast at the end of ep 10 (11?).
Gotenks
Kagamoe's Grandpa. He makes up all those crazy and silly reasons for Kagome being absent.
Long---Shot
I like Rin alot. Shes the only human cool enough to hang with Sesshomaru laugh.gif
harriet
WAY late on this- bu tI was just rewatching some episodes, and realized how very fond I was of Ayome's ( oh, however you spell her name) wolf relatives. they are so noble and yet, cuddly, in that wonderful way all dogs are. Beat whiny little reptiles anyday.
Ozymen
Souta.... he is definetly my favourite...
and that is just because of his grand appearance on ep 90
he managed to be the only one in this series who got to get the girl

good point.

Souta = pimp of the show
Inuyasha, Miroku, etc = losers
