well i just thinking all the main character in inuyasha have had romances of some kind; including the little fleas. but there is one main character who has yet to show affection for others, sessumaru (although some have tried to love him). who do you think sess will be the most likly to return affections?

assuming that someone his character changed and he cared about such things that is.

i would say well Rin is way to young so she is cute and he loves her but only in a fatherly protector kind of way.

jaken is out becuase umm.... well sess isnt gay (and im sure all the fan girls out there will kill me for just suggesting the idea) :blue:

"The lady who controls the wind" - I think you mean Kagura.

Well, looking at the way the manga has been going recently and the different characters' personalities, I'd say that she's the most likely candidate. Unfortunately, I can't really manage to explain most of my reasons for this choice without giving away some spoilers so...

SPOILERS AHEAD! (Highlight to read)


Looking at the events of recent chapters it does seem that there is a possibility of Takahashi pairing up Kagura and Sesshoumaru. *Cue fan outrage* Taking things at face value, Sesshoumaru doesn't seem to be that bothered about her but I think that he's more concerned about Kagura than he wants to admit.

For starters, Kagura has been offering him more and more help lately, which I'm sure isn't just a coincidence. And I don't think it's entirely for her benefit either. We know that she finds Sesshoumaru attractive and still continues to think about him and persevere with her efforts to help him even though he doesn't show a lot of gratitude towards her. I'm quite sure that Rin's comment about Kagura being in love with Sesshoumaru wasn't just put in to sound cute either.

Then we have the events of chapter 350 and 351, in which Sesshoumaru pulls an injured Kagura out of the river and she tells him where to find Naraku's heart. Kagura's line, "Before I die, just one more time...I just felt that I could" suggests that she wanted to see Sesshoumaru one last time before she died. So it seems that Kagura could well have some feelings for Sesshoumaru.

As for Sesshoumaru, well it's certainly not easy to tell what he's thinking given his usual lack of facial expressions but there are several things that hint towards him being at least a little concerned about Kagura's well-being. Yes, Sesshoumaru didn't bother to try and pull Kagura out of the river until Rin and Jaken fell in after her. However, when he saw Kagura's body he did seem rather hesitant, as if he was wondering what to do. Then we have the infamous "look" that Sesshoumaru gave Kagura as she was leaving in chapter 351. Whilst it's true that this is largely open to interpretation I think it suggests some concern for her on his part.

The fact that Sesshoumaru seems to make a point of ignoring her makes me suspect that he's more bothered about her than he lets on. He's often dismissive towards her but he's never been flat-out hostile towards her and he does take the time to listen to what she has to say (provided that he thinks it's worth the bother of listening to). It almost seems as if he's deliberately trying to make himself not take any notice of her, which is the kind of thing that Sesshoumaru usually does when he wants to hide his concern (as in the case of Rin and sometimes Jaken).

I also think that they're a good match personality-wise because Sesshoumaru's coolness and Kagura's fieriness complement each other pretty well. If Sesshoumaru has one big flaw then it's that he's arrogant to a fault. No, I don't see Kagura dragging him around on a leash (it's an amusing mental image though) but perhaps having someone there to challenge his authority might do him a bit of good. Kagura isn't the type to put up with any nonsense and if she disagrees with him then you can be sure she'll tell him about it. In the same way, Kagura's temper has gotten her into trouble before so having Sesshoumaru there to hold her back would also be good for her.

Besides, I think Sesshoumaru would find a woman who wasn't afraid to challenge him interesting. Yes, I can see why Sess/Rin appeals to some fans but although opposites often attract I think that she's perhaps a bit too sweet and nice for Sesshoumaru. I personally prefer their relationship as a father-daughter or an older brother and little sister than as a romantic one. (Then I suppose there's also the fact that it would be a bit like falling in love with your stepfather.)


Yes, I know Kagura is Naraku's detachment but it's also true that one of the biggest themes of this series is accepting people for who they are so I do think that it's possible that Sesshoumaru would be able to overcome this fact. I certainly don't expect Takahashi to end the series with Sesshoumaru and Kagura being all lovey-dovey with each other if she does decide to take things in that direction, as that would be extremely OOC for both characters. A subtle hint or two would be enough for me.

I haven't read the chapters you're talking about, but even just where the anime is right now, Kagura would be the only person I could think of. All she has to do is get her heart back first.

Kitsune, I agree with what you're saying. I can't imagine seeing them ever jump into each other's arms. When was the last time Sesshoumaru picked up Rin and cuddled her, right? Neither of them would look right acting that way. Which is why it makes some sense for them to end up together.

My biggest qualm with the Sessho/Kagura relationship is that it doesn't do anything for Kagura. I mean, her whole goal in life is to be "free", and tagging along with Mister Superiority Complex isn't really gonna accomplish that. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing the two becoming "buddies", but anything beyond a platonic friendship seems like it would just weigh Kagura down. Like she's exchaning her iron chains for gold chains. Might be nicer chains, but they're chains nonetheless.

Then again, it might work out if Sesshoumaru were to retain his annoyingly apathetic demeanor, and just let her do whatever she wants. But then... what's the point in having a relationship, then, if one side pretty much acts like the other side isn't there?

So, in my opinion, I'm perfectly content with the way things are now. Sess can just worry about being Rin's dad, and Kagura can get her freedom and not have to look to anyone.

I say we make Patches an honorary character and let her have Fluffy.

Hmmm, you've got an interesting point there, Patches but I’m going to have to disagree. Still, I don’t mind people challenging my opinions at all; it makes discussions like this much more interesting. Besides, I'm also fond of playing devil's advocate. :evil:

It's certainly true that Kagura's current goal is to be free from Naraku. However, whilst freedom may be her priority at the moment there's still the question of what she's going to do with her freedom once she's earned it.

Now I certainly don't expect her to go rushing into Sesshoumaru's arms once all this is over (provided that Kagura survives, of course). In fact I don’t expect much in the way of fluff at all with these two. A platonic friendship between them is more what I would expect from Takahashi, with maybe a little hint at a chance of something more developing later on, to please us evil, evil Sesshoumaru/Kagura fans - if we're lucky. :evil:

However, I am a self-confessed evil little traditional-pairing whore. I do think that it is possible for a relationship to develop between them, even though it would take time to develop. Yes, both of them would have to learn to compromise somewhat. Neither would be able to get their own way all the time. It certainly wouldn’t be easy for either character. It’s certainly not the kind of pairing that would be easy to write, heck Sesshoumaru with anyone is extremely difficult to write, given his tendency to show all the emotion of your average brick wall. (I have actually come across well-written Sesshoumaru/Kagura fanfiction before, believe it or not, and will provide a link to it if anyone’s interested.)

Despite these difficulties, however, I do think that a Sesshoumaru/Kagura pairing is possible. Since I have a habit of reading into things far too much, I can’t help wondering if freedom is all that Kagura wants. For all her pride, she does seem to be a little lonely sometimes. When looking back at Kagura’s comment in chapter 351 and some of Rin’s comments in earlier chapters, it does seems that she’s more concerned about Sesshoumaru than she wants to admit, just as it seems that he might be more concerned about her than he wants to admit. For all his coldness, he does have a tiny seed of compassion hidden deep down somewhere, why else would he take in Rin?

Then there’s also the fact that Kagura needs Sesshoumaru’s help to kill off Naraku, which means that she’s at least going to have to co-operate with Sesshoumaru in order to get anywhere. This means having to make compromises and put with him, just as he’ll have to put up with her if he wants her help. And of course this sets the seeds for a platonic relationship, if not a romantic one.

I think that if a romantic relationship were to develop between the two then it could only begin to develop after a platonic relationship had been established. Working together to defeat Naraku would require them to learn to at least tolerate each other a little and learn to put up with each other’s differences. In other words, both of them would have to change a little in order to achieve their common goal together. And whilst it wouldn’t be easy for either of them to change enough for a romantic relationship to be possible, it wouldn’t be impossible either (Sesshoumaru’s changed since the beginning of the series.) On the other hand, they wouldn’t need to change completely, either. I think they’d just be more open and tolerant around each other whilst still remaining closed-up around others.

So to cut a long post short, yes, I do think that Sesshoumaru/Kagura would work despite the difficulties, even though a relationship between them would take a long time to develop.

As for alternative pairings, well I’ve not finished reading Soledad yet but I can see where Thunk’s coming from with the Sesshoumaru/Sango pairing, even if it’s not my cup of tea. I’m afraid that most alternative pairings just aren’t, no matter how well they’re written, since to write an alternative pairing well you pretty much have to start from scratch so they don’t really work outside the context of the fanfic. I’m also an OTP type of person in the sense that if I take a liking to a pairing then I really can’t see the characters it involves with anyone else. I don’t hold anything against people who choose to write alternative pairings, however, just as I don’t have a problem with anyone preferring Sesshoumaru to stay single. It’s not an easy thing to do well, so kudos to anyone who has the talent to be able to do so. However, that doesn’t mean that I think canon pairings are easy to write either. (A well-written, believable, IC Inu/Kag fic is sadly a very rare thing indeed.)

I'm still an avid Rin/Sess believer.

Mostly because they remind me of Darshe and Arshes from Bastard. Darshe found Arshes when she was a very small girl all alone and orphanated. And then he adopted her and raised her and she called him daddy and then she got older and adultish and THEN they started having sex! They have this whole fatherly/daughterly love as well as man/woman love! It's super and it works well and I totally see it in Rin and Fluffy. I realize this just sounds weird and gross to some people...but...oh well, I dont care. I'm sticking to Rin and Fluffy

But seriously, I have never liked the Sesshou/Kagura paring. I personally have no ill feelling for Kagura, but I don't think she'd be a good person for Sesshoumaru. She doesn't respond well to authority, and although Sesshoumaru would not treat her like Naraku does I do agree whole heartedly with what Patches said.

Sesshoumaru does need some one who can truly put up with his attitude, and lets not forget, he would be majorly over protective and demanding of his mate. Hmmm...I really don't think Kagura could put up with it. Now that i think about it would Sango put up with it?

Hmmmm....Sesshou might be mateless for a while. XD

It's actually an alternative universe (AU) fic but don't let that put you off. There are actually well-written AU fics out there, just not very many of them. (The author's also listed any other potentially off-putting things in the author's notes before the beginning of the first chapter.)

Hey, I said it was an alternate universe fic - it's supposed to be different. I'm pretty happy with the way the author characterises everyone but I understand how it might not work for you if AU's aren't your thing. Different strokes for different folks and all that. (I've addded the summary for the fic to my post though, just in case there's any Sess/Kagura fans lurking around here or anyone else who might be interested - it makes it a bit clearer that the fic is an AU.)

Still, when it comes to pairings there's one thing that you can be sure of. No matter what happens, no way is everyone going to agree on who should be with who.

Well, the thing with Sesshoumaru is that while Kagura is the only possible person I can imagine him being with... It's still strange to think about. I'm just too used to him displaying little to no emotion to picture him in a "loving" relationship with anyone. Can you imagine the words "I love you" coming out of his mouth? Even after writing some crappy fanfiction about it, I think it might creep me out.

If you have the Inuyasha PS1 fighting game, you can make him actually say that.

Anyway XD I didn't think there were any possible mates (wow I'm making it sound like dog pairing or something. Then again...) in for him in the show. But after reading those recent chapters in the manga I'm become a Sess/Kagura fan. ^^

What is it with all these modern times IY fics?!? I apologize to any writers that write them, but I hate them! Most AU fics I've read from other shows tend to take a certain ep before something happened like a favorite character died, and splinter off into a new direction (ie. char doesn't die). I think these fics, where they take IY characters and stick them in modern times and all they have to do with the series is their names and personalities, are really stupid.

My rant for the day...

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of AU, either, unless it starts out semi-canon and the fic itself gives a viable reason for it to branch off AU. But most AUs are just "Well, I thought it would be fun if everyone went to high school together, so they just do. Because I said so." I don't mean to sound presumptuous or anything, but how great can your love for something be if you refuse to represent it in its original form? It's like you love it for what you wish it was instead of what it actually is (kinda like Sango with Miroku ::ducks flying objects::).

I'm so bored today... I must post randomness...

I read something on another forum and its about the future of these IY characters.(it was a link and I clicked on it.) I don't know if its true or not. But Sesshoumaru ends up marring Rin.
It's funny though, I always thought them two (Sess. & Rin) would be together.

The only way I could be okay with that pairing is if Sesshoumaru ditches Rin in some human village sometime in the near future, then comes back for her in ten years or so. Because marrying a guy who personally raised you to adulthood... that's like marrying your dad or something. I know it's not technically incest, but it still seems really awkward.

Now, Sess/Rin as a father/daughter relationship... that I'm perfectly fine with and actually support. But anything less platonic than that... whoa...

XD I saw Bastard! and I liked it very much. Well exept the strange relationship between D.S and the dark elf (Forgot her name). I mean he even called her his daughter. To me that was just plain wrong and weird.

And the same thing would happen if Seshsou even gets together with Rin. I mean if he raises her to adoult hood and then processed to mate with her. It would be insest in my book. So i'm with Patches on this one.

Personally it would be easier for me to accept the Sesshoumaru/Kauga relationship than the Sesshou/Rin one.

Seccie and Rin... Gah, no. Like Patchness said, it's like incest-ish in a way. I love the big-brother/litte-sister relationship. (Actually, I've always seen it as more of that than daddy-daughter.) But romantically, I don't see Secchie with anyone.

I've become a Kagura fan, but only of Kagura alone. I don't think the romantic relationship would do anything for her, nor would it do anything for Sesshoumaru. The reason Inuaysha/Kagome and Miroku/Sango work out so darn well is that a romantic relationship DOES something for their character. Inuyasha is a lonely, paranoid boy, and having someone like Kagome to love him and care about him romantically advances what his character is. Same for Miroku. It's kind of funny, becuase I see it like: Miroku is to Sango, what Kagome is to Inuyasha. In a way. Sango and Inuyasha are the fighters, Miroku and Kagome are the healers. Hmm... dunno if that makes sense.

Now Sesshoumaru.... romantic love would do absolutely NOTHING to make his charcter better or more interesting to me. Rin's the one who's doing that for him, not Kagura. Helping Kagura is merely a matter of circumstance. "She's against Naraku, I'm against Naraku. Like, OMG, that kinda means, WE'RE BOTH AGAINST NARAKU! WHOA!" I actually would hate to see them to get together because Kagura would do nothing for Secchie in what seems to be his character's development towards being a more compassionate person (whether he likes that or not). And Kagura... bah, being with Sesshoumaru would do nothing for her, either. She wants to have freedom, she needs to be on her own. She doesn't need romance. That would totally ruin her character for me.

From what I've seen, most of them seem to think Inuyasha's too much of a "two-timing jerk" to Kagome, and Sess needs someone to "melt his icy heart" or whatever. You know, kinda like Rin, only older. I still don't understand it, but to them it makes sense.

Personally, I've always thought a Kikyou/Sess pairing would be more fitting and interesting. Not that it's any more likely...

XD Yep to us it makes perfect sense. I'm one of those that lvoe the Sesshou/Kagome pairing. It's hard to explain why i like it. The first time i saw a fanfic like that, i went like " WTF! " but after i read it it made perfect since.

And yeah, it does have to do with the fact that, Inu is still unsure about Kikyo and Kagome. ANd most of the ones that liek this paring like it, cause let's face it, Kouga is nice and cute but dammm is he weak. He'd never be able to Protect Kagome properly.

Heh, my only explanation for the Sess/Kago pairing is that, given that she's the main character of the series, fangirls identify with Kagome. Therefore, they use her in fanfiction like their avatar, so she's like a Mary-Sue without being an original character.

I admit, the Sess/Kago pairing would be interesting... but it would have to be in some alternate universe, since there are WAY too many canon things you'd have to break in order for it to work. And, since I don't like AU... I don't tend to dwell on it.

In all honesty, I do think Sesshoumaru is at least interested in Kagome. Not romantically interested mind you, but more of a curiosity, like "Who the heck is this girl, why does she act so weird, what the heck is she wearing, and why does she have all these weird powers?" And, of course the best way to answer that would be to attack her and see what she does. ^_^

Eh...the Sess/Kagome pairing bothers me in many ways, but the most annoying is how the authors keep saying Inuyasha is a "two-timing jerk." It sounds like the person knows nothing about the characters. To me, that's just a really shallow remark...


Hey, that's true...I've never thought about that. Can't imagine Kagome doing anything that would provoke an attack from Sesshy though Sess vs. Kag XD ...but before that, I must to see Hakudoushi vs. Sess.

Maybe it'll turn out that Hakudoushi is really Sesshoumaru's illegitimate child. Hey, Naraku DID try to absorb him, and while he didn't get Sesshoumaru's power, he might have gotten some genetic code from him...

Yes. This drives me INSANE. I think I've finally convinced myself to write an opposition to the little thing I wrote from Kikyou's point of view, which I wrote for the same reason: People don't want to see the potential real emotions behind what these guys do, they want it to be a cut and dried Kagome and Inuyasha relationship. But Kikyou frikken was woke from the dead remembering only betrayal, so it took time to come around from that...and Inuyasha woke up from a 50 year seal! To him, it must have seemed very little time had passed, and the love he had for her was real...not something he could just "wake up the next day" and forget about. Grr.

1. Sesshomaru COULD have used his poisen-claw-thingy-acid to kill Kagome, but he just decided to choke her instead
