Full Version: Kouga's Sword.

just seems to sit there. Is it ornemental or something? Honestly, Kouga seems to like punching things even though he has a sword. I could see if the shards were in the ARMS, but noooo.

*confusion*
Sir Lucius
Begin wild speculation:

I think what it might be is a kouga knife, which was the tradtional knife used by the ninja. It wasn't just used for totally fliping out and stabbing people tho, it was also used as a tool. The blades usually weren't very sharp so they could be held and the hilt could be used as a hammer. Then I suppose you could could also cut tree branches or carve stuff with it. I might be totally wrong on my information, but that's what I remeber.

So basically (I think) it's more like a pocket knife and just wouldn't cut it (intentional pun) in a fight.
Patrioil
Didn't we have this discussion before?
And the reason that he doesn't use the sword,
is because he's stupid. But I still like him... tongue.gif
Bankotsu
he doesnt need a blade, he's a youkai with 2 shikon shards ffs tongue.gif
Ozymen
that is excactly the point...

he used to use it before he equiped himself with sikon shards...
thus: the sword now is completely useless to him...

(well i dont think he could use it very efficiently before anyway...)
Suikotsu
Hmmm.. why it reminds me he used his sword in an eppisode..
BTW im new here.. smile.gif
Patrioil
Seeing as you are new (yes Ozy, I said see),
do not do ONE LINERS, Suikotsu! It's very irritating.
This is the second time in two days I've said this...
I'm starting to sound like an old lady. *lol*
But still: NO ONE LINERS, FOLKS! It only ticks people off.

And about Kouga's sword.
It's probably just something he needs when hunting,
what the heck do I know. and I don't care.
Nuriko_no_Miko
Wolves need knives to hunt? o.o;;; And a wolf youkai, no less? I think its just an ornamental knife/sword/dagger/fishstick.... I dun think he could ever use it in the first place. If anything, wouldn't it be *more* useful to him with the Shikon shards? I mean, it would just make him better since he can move in to attack faster ^_^ But then....he's more likely to move out. Those Shikon shards certainly get him out of trouble fast! He's a cocky, furry, bigger version of Myouga-jiji, in my ever so humble opinion ~snickers~

But if you look at it, the scabbard (spelling?) is fairly large. It has to at least A LITTLE sharp. Kouga doesn't even use claws for crying out loud. he punches things! If he used a fork it would be more effective than a punch. Maybe there is something super power-cool with that thing =P

ugh. I understand when IY uses his claws instead of a sword, because he uses claws... if he was punching things I would yell at the screen "YOU HAVE A SWORD DUMBASS!" =P
Bankotsu
well i do recall that he had a shikon shard on his arm that boosted his punches before but now that he has lost it, well maybe he's just used to punching
Houshi_Sama
Kouga's sword is probably just an ordinary (read: non-magical) metal blade that wouldn't really give him an advantage in a fight. His shikon-aided kicks are probably a million times more dangerous than a slash from a regular sword.

Now, if he had a sword like Tessaiga, but STILL never used it in battle, that's a different story...
Bankotsu
i wonder how a shikon shard on Tetsusaiga would b

I didn't even notice he had a sword. Wow, this is an old thread! biggrin.gif Anyway, I'm just guessing, but I think he just keeps it there in case of emergency. Example situation:
Kouga's hands are tied and his legs are tied ( I dunno about the sheath) and so he wiggles around so that his sword rubs against the rope, and thus he unties himself with his... erm... EXTREMELY useful sword. smile.gif

That is a good point. Mesa thinking of James Bond. ^^
Except that he's... a youkai! He would probably break free!
But I do recall that Inuyasha was tied up once...
when he had fought Sesshoumaru-sama and got another hole.

Hole = Hole in stomach that will someday kill him,
if it's not lost of blood, then he is just immortal... jeez!
Kagome: "You can get a hole through your stomach
(but not eat spicy food, such as curry)...
"

happy.gif lol

Well, maybe it was magical rope. Like.... Yura of Hair strings or something. Who loved those few episodes? (me, me!). I liked the part when Kagome pushed Inuyasha and he fell over because of his cuts, and she says "well you should have said something!!"
JoOjOoBeAnS
Kouga is a idiot/retard/ugly to begin with. I bet his sword skills are lower then inuyasha's. Kouga needs to quit butting in between kagome and inuyasha. He needs to accpet the fact Kagome has no hots for him.
Patrioil
How can u say he's UGLY!? He looks like Ryouga!
Ryouga, dammit, Ryouga! Ryouga is not UGLY!
Kouga may not be my favorite character in IY,
but I still like him... man, he is not UGLY.... noo...

I think Kouga uses his "sword" for fishing,
though, Ginta & Hakkaku seems to be doing that...

Well he is UGLY from my point of view, he is my least fav character in Inuyasha next to Sess. I hate them both for some odd reason. Sorry all u kouga/Sess lovers but i wants to see them die.
Inuyasha666
Ok, I can agree with the Kouga thing, cept I laughed in episode 67 when he slugged Kagura in the face tryin to get back his shards, but really without them he's a complete weakling. But, Sesshoumaru is awesome. He's my 3rd fav character, 1st Inuyasha, and 2nd Sango. I mean come on? I like him even more after seeing episode 116. That was a brillant tactic impaling his sword into Suikotsu and then jamming his claws into Jakotsu. Too bad it had little to no effect on either of them. dry.gif
aurora_skys
patrioil, i totally agree with the whole kouga looks like ryoga and therefor is not ugly happy.gif
just thinking, maybe because its the feudal era and practically every guy out there is running around with a sword, kouga felt he should have one too? i guess his macho male image wouldnt be complete without it...
and i was actually a little disappointed with the way sesshoumaru handled jakotsu and suikotsu. when he stuck his hand through jakotsu's stomache, i seriously thought he was going to rip his spine out (through his stomache, think about it. i think it'd be cool at least...). of course, then i realized that this is inu yasha im watching and maybe ive been reading just a little too much Blade of the Immortal...
Squidy
I think Kouga just heard somewhere that chicks dug swords and has been carrying one ever since.

Kouga certainly certainly has the same role in the story as Ryoga does in Ranma.

Both are "rivals" to the main male character that aren't really taken seriously by the female main character. They both are strong, but not as strong as the main guy and add comedy relief to the story.
Ozymen
Kouga has only one role in the series...
and that is to always-forever postponing his death by managing
to remain alive after ticking off all the main chars...

if only kono Ozy was part of the show...
ahhhhhhhh... "if only..... if only"

........... *drifts away in his thoughts of killing that ***** *
aurora_skys
yea...does it seem like all of the guys tend to look the same? i just got a few volumes of maison ikoku and now theres 4 guys who are all strikingly similar: ryoga, ranma, kouga, and yusaku. crazy... and then the guy from one pound gospel!
Squidy
talk about characters that look alike, put human Inuyasha's hair in a braid and you have Ranma
Patrioil
The first time I saw Godai in MI,
I was like "Is this Ranma½!?",
but then I noticed his nerdy clothes...
I read the animanga in a french magazine.

Ranma and Inuyasha looks alike,
and Ryouga and Kouga does.
Kagome and Akane does not!
It is made after the same author, after all.
But I think the manga is diferent,
in the anime they make the charries the same.
In the manga they often have certain "thing".
"Thing" = Something, like the way they're drawn,
it can be eyes, or facial shapes... et cetera

And Kouga and Ryouga wears a bandana!

Sango also has a sword, and she hardly ever uses it, but I don't hear anyone criticizing her. Not that anyone should. ^_~ She's so great. And hey, if you can sprint faster than even Sesshoumaru and punch hard enough to give a demon a sore jaw, who cares about a sword.

Sango uses her sword sometimes... but Kouga, on the other hand, has NEVER used it. Perhaps he used to use it when he didn't have his shikon shards (his wolf buddies all carry weapons), but now that he has shards, he can kick and claw with a lot more force now.

I don't know if Kouga is faster than Sessho, either. Sessho can really hump it when he wants to.
Chibi_Ruby
I didn't say she didn't use it. I said she hardly ever uses it.
Big difference.

Maybe Kouga uses it to pick his teeth or cut his hair?

The Chibi Has Spoken
JoOjOoBeAnS
Maybe Kouga can stick it upwards on the ground and jump off from a cliff thus ending our loving character Kouga, who has lived somewhat of a life. THE END there kouga is dead. End of story.
JoOjOoBeAnS
oh yeah..

I didn't say that you said she didn't use it, ehe. I was merely pointing out the difference between Sango's and Kouga's sword handling. People don't criticize Sango's swordsmanship because she can clearly handle a sword when she needs to. Kouga, on the other hand, has yet to show any sword skills. Not that he really needs any, of course.

Although if he really wanted to improve his strength beyond Inuyasha's, he should get himself a powerful weapon and learn how to use it. Inuyasha improved himself by strengthening Tesseiga, Sessho improved himself by getting a comparable sword (Toukijin)... while Kouga keeps running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

(Dammit, JoOjOoBeAnS, you almost made me scream when I saw that pic! Ugh, Richard Simmons... he scares the heck out of me. ::shudder::)

Maybe Kouga just carries the sword around for the security of it. You know, so he can have the satisfaction of knowing that if all else fails (and it usually doesn't), at least he's not completely unarmed.

Or it could be an heirloom, something passed down to him from someone else, much like Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's swords. Kouga is the leader of the wolf youkai tribe, after all. So he might carry it around as a symbol of that, even though he doesn't actually use it.
