Sorry, I just had to bring this topic back up from the dead.
Just an observation that probably doesn't really change what we all think, but for the first time, we actually DO have a small indication of timeframe.
It's been less than two years. XD
*SPOILERS FROM CHAPTER 343-345*
Shima's dad says that they met Miroku in the past. Two years ago. And that was a while before Miroku started travelling with everyone. So yep, been much less than two years. I guess we're still at less than a year.

ROFL -
Sorry, but we all should know better by now. Rumiko-san loves to play things out forever, and doesn't much constrain her storylines to mundane things like time and space.
Remember Ranma 1/2? Seven seasons, one OVA, two movies, *three* Christmas special episodes, and at least one reference to the "second anniverary" of episode one, where Ranma and his father first come to live at the Tendo dojo.
But at the end, all the characters are still in the same grade at high school, and Ranma is still 16 years old.
Rumiko's stories are like quantum reality - where everything happens all at once, and time is an illusion. You'll make yourself crazy looking for a timeline that's probably not there.
