Now, you gotta love Fluffy-sama and Inu-chan. But... how about the Shichinintai? I feel sorry for them - they got royally
screwed, ne? But anyway... I LOVE Jakotsu - he's a bishie in his own right (even though he's about as feminine as a man can get...). Anyway, he's made his way onto my list of favorite bishies. Are Alicia (my partner in otakudom, Chichiri no Miko) and I alone in this?
Oh, and because I want an opinion from those that actually KNOW who Jakotsu is...:
Alicia and I recently returned from Animazement here in Raleigh NC, and we came back with a new idea. I will be returning to AZ next year as Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, and Alicia is entertaining the idea of going as Jakotsu;and for the cosplay competition, we're going to partner up and sing "Man! I Feel Like a Woman"

For an idea thought up throuh pixie-stick-induced-madness, does it sound fitting of the charries? Lemme know what you think.

Hear hear! I love Jakotsu to death, and anyone who uses bad epithets against him will not be tolerated

(In general, slurs are not tolerated in this forum, btw.) Nice to see a character who reacts the way most of us would if we were put into an anime series--namely, going utterly fangirl over his/her object of lust ^_~
Bankotsu is pretty awesome too, though. I don't remember who his VA is, but I LOVE his voicing! He does some great stuff with his voice--really brings Bankotsu to life. I didn't care for his character much on paper, but he really comes to life animated. Renkotsu is really good too, although I don't like his bitchy control-freaky nature...even though I don't like him much, I will concede that his voice fits perfectly. And even Ginkotsu rules--check the scene in 110 where Ginkotsu goes running crazily in the background behind Suikotsu! Or the "idling" scene in 111! It's hilarious, we watched it like 50 times!
(or maybe Boots and I are just weird

;;)

A lot of people made that mistake, actually. In fact, I hear there was even heated debate on the IRC channel--people even screencaped his adam's apple to prove he was male
For the record, Jakotsu is definitely male. He uses male pronouns to refer to himself, and he is very flat-chested.

rofl you'd have to download inu yasha doujins to make sure
*note: in the old days some japanese geisha used to dress up as males.... maybe.... well anyway he does seem male*

i thought he was a girl too... but there was this edge to his voice that seemed man - like, but when i saw his face i was like ' okay... it's a girl.' but then i saw that it had no chest and declared it a man with different prefrences.
there was actually a debate over whether or not he was a guy? lol!

he gets all exicted when they bring up inuyasha or something. I think that makes him look all girlish or something >.>
Feh!
May 31 2003, 04:57 PM
Jakotsu is an effeminate psycopath, with a bad-ass collapsable sword, who seems extremely attracted to Inuyasha, and gets very...um...excited at the thought of tortuing our beloved Inu-chan & watching him die.
Now, how can you go wrong with that?
Seriously, if you think that Jakotsu is as wonderfully creepy & fun of a character as I do, find the episode--and freeze-frame on the moment in it--where Jakotsu tastes Inuyasha's blood by licking it off of his sword. Quite a lovely pic, ne?

Well I don't actually know alot about Jakotsu other than what's been seen in the series so far. However he seems just as RUTHLESS like all his other brothers! Plus even though he likes InuYasha he only wants his ears as a trophy!
The fact the he can't stand women is so funny, and watching him get upset when he doesn't get Inu as an assignment is just fun to watch his expression!

Blah... had to defrag the computer. Anyway! I definitely agree, bakadeshi-san - Bankotsu's seiyuu did a very nice job with the part ^^ And Jakotsu's as well - but perhaps that's because he sounds so much like my beloved Nuriko sama ^^. Those two, along with Inuyasha, have the coolest voices in the show - they're just neat. And as for Ginkotsu.... well, I can't say I like him. I don't. But his habit (laugh?) of saying "Ishishi!" is hilarious... I was laughing like a madwoman when he zipping across the background behind Suikotsu. I must have watched that scene a hundred times.
I'd have to say that my favorite Jakotsu scenes are 1) the one where he is fanning his scent aound, 2) where he licked Inu-chan's blood from his sword, and 3) the scene with him, Miroku, and Inuyasha. I wish Jakotsu was a charrie that could hang around... but we know that those that side with Naraku aren't gonna make it all the way through the series (save for Kanna and Kagura...). Durn it >.<

Yer right, Jakotsu and Nuriko are pretty much alike.
BTW, I read FY vol. 8 today... oh my God... NURIKO!!
My friend is gonna be devestated! Once again, that is...
I also thought Jakotsu was a girl...
then I saw his chest... *drool in a perverted way*
Why can't IY seem to understand Jakotsu's feelings?

kay.... straying a bit from the IY topic....
Patrioil: OMG... I cried so much... ~huggles her poor lil Nuriko~ I watched the anime before I read the manga - I watched it twice, actually, before I even bought the first manga (then watched it again when I ran out of manga to read... I have book 16 of the Japanese manga ^^). Episode 33, BANG, the emotional rollercoaster started. From there on, the tears (whether happy or devastated) were nonstop. Dead serious - I watched it summer before last in 2 days; I don't think I ate or slept o.o;; My best friend, my little sister and I all sat in a semicircle around the screen with a trashcan full of tissues in front of us. It was great

Favorite series ever
Alright, back to IY. Yes, I must admit, Jakotsu does have a nice chest ^_~ -drools right along with Patrioil- I love being a rabid fangirl....

I wish Jakotsu was straight... *drools*
... I like Jakotsu a lot, really...
does this make me a lesbian... ?
It's all so confusing! Chikushou!
Off topic to Nuriko_no_Miko:
My friend borrowed FY vol. 6 and 7...
I didn't tell her about the Jie-Lien massacre,
nor did I tell her about Nuriko in book 8...
OMG, she's going to cry her eyes out!
But I did warn her a bit, though...

Hehehe, I also thought Jakotsu was a girl. The flat chested bit can be explained by the fact that most female warriors have to put wrapping around their chests. Thought Jakotsu was something like an Amazonian warrior.
Like him most amongst the Shichinintai as well. If only Bankotsu wasn't so much of a himbo, and Renkotsu not so devious (wondering if he would ever betray the Shichinintai, hmm.....), I wouldn't have just liked Jakotsu.

Ah. So that's it, I like Jakotsu because he's gay...
what am I saying? Of course I do! Plus he's a bitch! (stop that!)
Like Nuriko in FY... no, I'm not gonna bring up FY again.
But I like a lot o' em anime characters...
like Tasuki... uh... Spider-man (I know, I know... don't hit me).
I've been in love with Spider-man since I was 6.

~start spontaneously crying~ Nuriiikoooooo!
I spread the love of FY around to all of my friends... every last one of them. They've only read up to volume 8 of the manga - through Animerica Extra - and they all cried. And the great thing is, it was in the middle of class. ^^ I'm so evil. I didn't tell them about Jie-Lien and the rest of the family and I didn't utter a word about Nuriko. In Chemistr, English, and Chorus - yes, when she should have been singing - I had people crying ^^ One of my teachers got mad at me ~halo pops up over her head~ Whaaat? I didn't do anything!
And I loooove that Jakotsu piccie... actually, I saved it ^^;; And while I deny that Nuriko was gay (he just had two sides... kind of. The male one took over more after volume 7 because he - well, cant say that =X), there's no doubt about it with Jakotsu, lol. And that's part of the reason I love his charrie ^^ Wouldn't want it any other way - though it would make it nicer if he didn't hate women so violently.

Durn straight izzy-san!! oh! Allow me to introduce meself to everyone else...~bows~ I is Nuriko no Miko's partner n crime and otakudom Chichiri no Miko~theme music plays~ Ok..on the topic of Jakotsu..BISHIE!!..I always thought that Jakotsu was a man as I have had sufficent experiance with men looking like women because some of the first animes I watched were Fushigi Yugi (hotohori and nuriko)and Sailor Moon(the starlights)..I have learned one important lesson in animes : Always check the chest even if you have to grabs to check for boobs (thanks miaka for this valuable lesson^^) Anyways..I love Jakotsu..he's an awesome charrie..i wish he like women more..nuff said

Ppppffffffftttttt!! ~falls over laughing, toppling from her chair and hitting the floor wth a muffled thump~ The first thing I saw, Alicia-san, was your WACKY ASS signature!! LMAO! (for those of you that don't know what that's about...
http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail58.html check that out. Your speakers need to be on, but is hilarious)
Anyway... ~regains composure~ My partner in crime finally joined the convo ^^ And with a valid point. The chest is usually the best bet in anime - if it ain't got breasts, it ain't female. ~snickers~ I just don't sound right saying 'ain't'... no accent ^^;; It's pretty obvious that Jakotsu has a man's chest - no matter how feminine he looks/sounds. If anyone else has a reliable way to tell (*coughs* hentai doujinshi left out of this...), lemme know, onegai! It gets a little old, drooling over a guy charrie only to find out he's a she ^^;; Sometimes you can't tell!

Ok acting clueless here; the term berserker was used in John'Brunner's 70's sci-fi classic Stand on Zanzabiar- has that any relation to the way it's being used here?

Hmmmm yet again i have no idea what you are talking about... but Berserker, the way I know it (from RPG's and stuff) or watch
Berserk or
Reccord of lodoss war is the state at which one lead by extreem anger "looses it" (now in the cases mentioned above) starts fighting until his body is colapsed or miraculessly returns to himself...
but i also refer to getting out anger in general terms as a more "loose" version of it
an example of a Berserker is InuYasha while his youkai blood takes over...

For those language buffs out there the word berserker is of Germanic origin and means either "bare-shirt"(i.e. bare-chested) or, more likely, "bear-shirt" and refers to ferocious warriors, often wearing bearskin as clothing, who would go into a battle-rage like the transformed Inuyasha. They were believed to become part-human, part animal and they felt no pain and had greatly enhanced power. Beserker is a great way to decribe the transformed Inuyasha...
