Kagome's line to Inuyasha: "Oh, you! You really don't get it at all, do you. A girl he was close to showed up in front of him, and he felt bad for her."

That just struck me funny coming from her, considering how much trouble she has with him getting involved with Kikyou. Was that an intentional parallel on Takahashi's part or was that just how Kuro worded the translation that made it seem that way?

Seemed a bit off to me, as well, actually, so I ran my translation by Roy, he thought it might also mean "so he felt bad" interpretation.

What I originally translated it into was:
"Just because a girl he was close to show up in front of him, it's not a reason to feel good."

kibun ii wake nai deshou. = no reason to feel good.

And yes, I actually probably SHOULD reword it into my original translation, but I ran out or word-bubble space. The pain of this format is that sometimes I do have to reword a little into something I THINK gets the same point across, but I think as you pointed out, the ambiguities lead to different interpretation...

On another note:

I love the "ore no deban ga.... nee!!!" line. XD
"It's my turn....." *next bubble* "....or not."

I just love the way you can negate an entire sentence in Japanese by "-nai"-ing the verb at the very end. XD Sadly, it's hard to get the same punch across in English...

As for myself... needless to say, I was very happy. She didn't say his name, but then I wasn't one of those people who were really expecting her to (sorry, Kuro ;;). I thought this resolution was just fine. I still would have really liked it if they'd drawn it out just a little more, but Takahashi does have a gift for being able to resolve things quickly yet still in a satisfying way. And God, but did I mention that I love Miroku? XD He was just awesome in this entire chapter... ::grrenviesSangogrr::

My favorite part was of course the "Capture MY woman??" Miroku pwnage, but I also cracked up during the Inuyasha "Hey, it's my turn now!..." panel, not just because of Inuyasha, but also because Miroku and Sango were just so funny in the background. Him swimming after her ("H-e-y..."), and the expressions on their faces... priceless. He looks sheepish, but also kind of gleeful, like "C'mon, I know you can't be all that mad at me now after that,"), and she looks annoyed and embarassed at the same time... I just thought it was cute. Heh.

I assume we'll be getting back to plot in the next chapter, then... wonder just what happened with Mouryoumaru and Kanna and Akago. I just hope things get moving again quickly, because something big needs to happen, dammit.

Possible translations for that line included:

"You still think you wanna, I'll give it my best, too!"
"You still wanna do this, I'll get serious, too!"
"If you really want to do this, I'm all for it!"
"Ya wanna? Ha, well, me too!" <-- okay, so maybe this one wasn't on the list, but still!

And then I got into the less-literal (but mighta been better to choose) translations:

"You think you can fight me, I'll fight seriously, too!" XD

I should also mention that I was particularly rooting for Sango throughout this chapter. One reason why I like her so much. She was totally jealous/pissed at Shima, and she still went to rescue her. Then again, Sango never was the kind of person to let that sort of thing stop her from saving anyone in trouble. I'm just glad that it turns out that part of her pesonality wouldn't change.

Kuro, I'm so grateful for your translations. For someone who doesn't know Japanese, reading your translations is a genuine treat. At no point do I think, 'huh? what are they saying?' So for all your worry, you're making a lot of people very happy!! Thank you for taking the time and bandwidth!!

And yes. I will finally concede that Miroku has shown some changed behavior in this chapter. I'd high-five Sango if I could for respecting herself enough to walk away from him. It shows she won't tolerate a cheater. And it looks like Miroku's more monogamous than he lets on. That half-crazed berserker look in his eyes when he thought the fish was taking his woman away from him did a good job of praying that.

For now, until I find a better explaination, I'm going to figure it means "Pilgrims" or "Aescetic." I'm not sure what it means yet, after my initial read-through. Hrm. Inuyasha-tachi come upon some villagers who were attacked (well, "attacked" probably isn't the word, they more like, got in his way and he moved and they freaked and thought they were being attacked) by a mountain youkai. None other than Yama... Gakusanjin.

Someone has killed him.

(Aw, MAN. And I LIKED Yama... Gakusanjin... *sniffles* I think I'll light a cnadle for him.... ;_; )

Anyhow, Inu-tachi learn from some villagers that these three are gyouja (pilgrims) - or travellers of sorts who are going around slaying youkai. One of the villagers mentions that they were carrying a jar, which had a light from it that could perice youkai.

To which Inu-tachi go "!" (IOW: "HOLY SHIZNIT! THAT MEANS SOMETHING!")

Kagome wonders if they're somehow tied to Naraku. And I think, yeah, EVERYTHING these days is somehow related to Naraku, isn't it? So Inu-tachi encounter these three gyouja, and they turn out to be KIDS. Well, they look like kids.

They look kinda cool, but that was just the first caption that came to mind.

Hmm.. I guess Naraku thought he had to die. Now the group can't get more youki crystals from him. Just how did Naraku find out about those crystals and the fact that Miroku had one? I think he has Kagura bugged or something...

And why are the kids holding ant-eaters?

Well...What I dont get is, if you go by the rumors going around, the manga should be wrapping up..

Well, I'm not expecting these kids to be as in-depth as the Shichinintai or anything. I'm just expecting that she's introducing them as another little interesting obstacle that, once they're defeated, will give Inu-tachi another means of stepping forward to find Naraku again.

But that's just my prediction. Hehe, and lately my predictions have been a little less than accurate. Somewhat accurate, but not very. *LOL*

They look like a sentai group...

By the way, who's Goryoumaru? Natsukawa's blog mentioned someone by that name in this chapter. Agh, not another maru! The marus will take over the world, I tell ya.

That was my first thought, too. But I'm not so sure he's Mouryoumaru or anyone. All we actally see of him is, like, half of his face. <_> The three kids seem to be under his service, though. They go to him and he thanks them for their troubles... saying he's still... performing a service for the dead. Or something like that.

I, too, am still waiting on adinuyasha. ;_; In the meantime, thanks for the spoilers, Kuro! It just doesn't feel like Wednesday unless there's manga goodness going about.

Those gyouja sound pretty cool. Or rather, they sound like they could lead up into something pretty cool. And hopefully that something will be at least remotely important to the plot. I don't know that the manga is ending anytime soon (most of the IY rumors circulating the net lately have been... well, completely wrong), but it would be nice if Takahashi decided to tighten the story just a little more. Whatever happened to Kohaku and Kagura trying to kill Akago, anyway? Kagura gave the crystal thing to Sesshoumaru, but apparently he hasn't done anything yet...

Well, got to be patient, I guess. In the meantime... wow, those kids look really cheerful for a group of youkai-hunting pilgrims.

Thoughts on this chapter:

1. I feel bad for Gakusanjin.

2. Having gotten a better look at the Gyouja now, I have just one question: how the heck can they see while wearing those mask things?

3. It's amazing how Takahashi managed to show an entire half of Goryoumaru's face and yet didn't really show us much at all... I'm really curious about this guy now.

4. The fact that the Gyouja and their little anteater ray guns can pierce through youkai can't be a coincidence with them going up against Inuyasha. So now I'm wondering... assuming he gets hit by one of the beams of light, is he going to be injured, or is the Hanyou Effect going to kick in again and turn him human, much like the barrier at Hakureizan did? Because it's been quite a while since we've seen him as a human...

5. Still wondering how the plan to kill Naraku is going.

And with a sprained wrist to boot! Ouchies!

Although...

"Creek squeek clatter creek squeak ... This is fun!" XD

...It's nice to know she's enjoying this project of hers as much as we are!


Anyway, about the chapter... clues would point to this Goryoumaru person and the kids as not being evil. He's performing some kind of memorial service for the demons they're slaying? (That's a new one.) And it looks like they're trying to protect humans more than anything.

But what is that in the third panel of page 11? Crystallized monks?

And, uh oh, Goryoumaru's doing somethin' with the dead. Better get Fluffy over here! ... Yeah, just any excuse to get him back into the picture. He needs to kick some more butt. Granted, if the Sengoku Sentai Group can't hit Inuyasha with their Aardvark Jars, I doubt they'd stand a snowball's chance in Hell against Sessho.

My random guess is that either Naraku's going about getting rid of competition OR
he is doing some kind of good service, much like Sango's group was.

It'd be nice to see some of our favorite fluffy'd person hanging around making Jaken's life miserable some more in this section.
Even if he did run into these AnteaterNose gun things, he could almost certainly dismember the gyoja folk quite easily.

Heeheehee... I read it while eating lunch and I REALLY shouldn't have been, since it literally had me laughing out loud. So I pretty much ignored lunch, ended up with cold cashew chicken and flat soda... eh-heh.

Inuyasha really has no patience for kids. XD

Anyhow... so woho's this Goryomaru up to and what's he up to? Well, turns out Gory was using those youkai to stick in the jar and make them, like..... Youkai-In-A-Jar weapons.

Hrm. But to tell the truth, it really doesn't feel like there's anything important revealed in this chapter. Except Kagura shows up again... and spouts some stuff about fuyouheki. So hopefully this is setting us up to find the baby. I HOPE.

So I'm still wondering if Gouryoumaru is Mouryoumaru. People have definitely been noticing that those two look aufully similar... the kids mentioned that they've been staying with Gory.. but for how long? (Or did I miss an explaination in my initial readthrough?) Hmmm....

I had this really, really weird theory pop into my head while in the shower last night (the shower seems to be a common place for this sort of thing for me ^_^*). It's most likely not true (it would certainly complicate things if it were), but... just some food for thought:

I'd always been pondering to myself, "What if the baby's just been a decoy all this time and Naraku's heart is really elsewhere?" Which, of course, brings up the next question, "Well, where else COULD it be?"

We know neither Naraku nor Hakudoushi has it. However, would Naraku really put something as important as his heart in something as vulnerable as a baby? If he was going to make an avatar carry his heart, you'd think he'd want to make that person pretty much impervious to anything. Immortality would be a nice touch.

However, instead of creating an avatar with these demanding abilities, it would be inifinitely simpler to just find someone who matches the specifications and forcibly hand the heart over to him. You know, lure him in, wrap him in tentacles, and steal his strength while giving him your weakness.

It would certainly be reason for said person to be abso-frickin'-lutely pissed off at you, while still being pretty closed-lipped about his reasons for the hatred.

It would also explain why he wasn't affected as badly by Mt. Hakurei's youkai barrier.

Not to mention the fact that he somehow randomly knew who Kikyou was and that she was the one who sealed Inuyasha.

Not a bad theory Patches. (And don't worry I think all of us or many of us do our best in showers. It's something about water I guess.)

Oooh. Interesting theory, Patchness. If the kid ISN'T Naraku's heart, that would give Takahashi a way to draw the story out longer. Although that would probably suck... it's like, "WTF HAVE we been chasing after this whole time, then?! Grrrarr!!"

Akanbo's split into Hakudoushi wasn't exactly something he planned, if I remember. (Actually, I don't really remember if anything was said about that.) So I wonder if Akanbo would have of course eventually grown his power enough so that he wouldn't have stayed a child the whole time. After all, even as Akanbo, he wasn't exaclty vulnerable... but then he DID have Kagura acting as his protector.

When he got split, it was like, "Oh hey, look, now one of me... has legs that work! WOOHOO! And now I shall go and, like, be Evil ™ and stuff. Ciao, all." while the other kid is like, "WAAAAAH! I GOT JIPPED OF A VOICE! I GOT JIPPED OF LEGS!!! I.... well, I got a heart."

For some reason, I think Akago is going to turn out to be this evil little dirty-diaper weilding monstrosity when the time comes to kill him.

CHAPTER 349: THE SWARM OF CORPSES

Although it sounds more like it's not exactly the true Goryo, it's more that the youkai in his arm are taking control of him. Very... interesting.

While I don't really think Naraku's hidden his heart inside the person whom Patches is implying, that is an interesting theory. You're right that it doesn't make much sense for Naraku to hide his one weakness in something as vulnerable as an infant...

...although come to think of it, now you've got me wondering whether or not there isn't more to that baby than we've seen. Maybe he is immortal/impervious or something, and we just don't know it (though I don't quite see him as the dirty diaper-wielding type )...

Hmm... ::pictures Akago smirking that evil baby smirk of his and just... smiting everbody:: ...Erk...


Haha, I knew something was up with that guy. Although I really had him pegged as evil... so if it's just the arm, then I really don't deserve that cookie. But heck... ::steals one anyway::

Aside from that, the only comments I really have on this chapter are 1) Kagura is awesome, and 2) Cliffhangers... are not.

Has the baby half had ANY dialogue since the split with Hakudoushi? I can't for the life of me recall the baby ever speaking.

Maybe Hakudoushi is like the intellectual and cute part,

Awesome. Okay Kuro, since you and I have about the same track record when it comes to predictions, I'll make my own All-Off one: Naraku is going to order Kagura to kill Kohaku.

Come on, it would work so well. And though I haven't actually seen the chapter for myself yet, it sounds like Sesshoumaru is already involved in things, so the timing would be just about perfect. If they're not going to do it now, when are they gonna do it?

So there... now in all likelihood, I'm one hundred percent wrong and will look like an idiot next week. (There's any number of things Naraku could have planned.) But on the flip side of the coin... if I'm right I'll look like a genius. Heh... in any case, it's always fun to guess at things like this.
