I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't mind the pronunciations, then...
Actually, I think hearing them pronounce the names "Japanese-style" would sound rather... forced. You know, it's more natural-sounding in English to saw the name "Kagome," as "Kuh-GO-may," rather than the Japanese pronunciation which really has no hard accents.
When I first heard them say the name "Kagura," I cringed, even though the pronunciation was more "accurate" than others have been... it sounded totally forced in English. It was like, "Did they get someone in there and try to teach them how to pronounce Japanese in a day or something?"
So I don't have problems with the dubs (save for Kaede and Kohaku, and sometimes Souta), because they sound like they're naturally speaking. Thing is, the speaking itself, versus the ACTING are different beasts. I don't like the way most of the characters come across in the dub. Their voices do nothing but bring out the most annoying qualities in each character for me. Like Inuyasha's whineyness. Inuyasha is NOT whiney. He's a jerk sometimes, but not whiney. XD And Kagome's... GAH, I shall not even GET into Kagome's voice.
The Japanese voices brought across more likeable qualities, like more humor, and more... eh, energy, I suppose. With the Japanese language, I feel much more, er, appreciative of each character.
Ah well, the dub could be worse. They could call Kagura "KAH-goo-ruh," (where "kah" rhymes with "nah") and Kanna "CAN-nuh."
Although I have to admit, hearing
Yasha rhyme with "Trasha" makes my head spin. XD
And for the record, I prefer the subs myself. But isn't that obvious with who's plastered all over my sig?
