I recorded those way back during their first run last year, when they still even ran it with the opening.

I'm just happy that I'm on Thanksgiving break now, and am thus at home and have cable, and can finally catch the dubbed episodes that I keep missing. No matter how many times they re-run it, I have NEVER been able to catch episodes 8-12 dubbed. I wanna hear Andrew Francis as Hiten, darnit! I heard that he was, against all expectations, halfway decent.
Superchop
lol, well...you can always wait till they repeat the eps from teh beginning again...it wont take too long for that to happen...and for that reason i dont bother taping anything anymore (it started with dbz...and ended with dbz...well...almost...i missed the last season)

I KNOW SOMEBODY HAS GOT TO HAVE TAPED IT! COME ON FOLKS. HELP A FELLOW FAN OUT. smile.gif

If they show it in 3 or so weeks I can probably record it via my tv card and compress it to divx or something. Im just bz with school right now and have to swap all my pc cards to get rid of a problem.
jms011
sorry ltech, i'm try to find the episodes i missed last week on adult swim

People who actually visit this site watched the dubbed American crap they show on Adult Swim? I'd rather fall on a bed of rusty nails then sit through 30 minutes of that torture...they butcher the dialogue, they make Kagome out to be even more of a priss then she actually is, and when I hear Jaken talk it's like nails on a chalkboard...not to mention them all calling Kirara "Kilala". Excuse me...

::runs off and purges his lunch::

Mmf... blink.gif
jms011
hey you little (word edited out), people here watch the american version cause they need something to laugh at.
Spectrum
I don't think they butcher the dialogue... the translation is usually pretty accurate, give or take a few changes here and there to match the character's mouth movements, and to make certain lines sound more natural in English. And I happen to think most of the voice actors are pretty good, actually, with a few exceptions (mainly Kagome and Kohaku). Even the bad ones get better with practice, too. As for "Kilala", considering the way most English VAs would pronounce "Kirara", unfortunately that was probably the best they could do. The Japanese "r" is a pretty hard sound to imitate if you're not used to it.

Can you tell I'm a dub fan? tongue.gif I'm not saying they're perfect or anything, but I do still enjoy them.
Honeybee
mellow.gif What a waste of a perfectly good lunch. tongue.gif I can't imagine getting that worked up over it. The dub isn't exactly like the original, but it has its own qualities worth watching. It's not changing the plot or the characters themselves like some truly horrible dubs have been known to. And the names are fine! Just spoken with an american accent, just as a Frenchman would pronounce your name in a french accent.
white fluffy
I've always wanted to watch some dubbed episodes. The only one i saw was when i went to this screening thing in AX. it was..the ep where inuyasha kissed kikyou I think. I wish I had cable...

you people with your "love for dubs" tongue.gif stick with the sub ones tongue.gif

whats so good about the dubbed versions? The lack of cuss words? The lack of good diolect? The lack of shows?

Subbed for people who can read biggrin.gif

Though apparently, not for those who can spell or capitalize. tongue.gif

I like the sub version and the dub. (Yes--I like both versions. ::gasp::) Though I like the sub better for two reasons: one, because in this case, Japanese is the language the characters should actually be speaking (not always the case in a series), and two, because I happen to like the majority of voices better. That doesn't mean I don't like the dub cast, though. But in any case, voice acting quality is a matter of opinion anyway, so there's no point in debating that.

I don't care much about the lack of profanity... Animeforever's subs in general don't use that much more than Adult Swim's version anyway, and the point always gets across, so what does it really matter? (So long as they're not saying "darn" and "heck", which thankfully isn't the case.) And good dialect is another matter of opinion. I think the AS scripts are usually pretty decent, all things considered. Particularly as the series goes on (the earlier eps could use a little work, but they do learn from their mistakes).

Lastly, if some people happen to enjoy the dubs... who cares? rolleyes.gif
Herrisa
I'm coming out of lurking just to say I rather like the dubbed versions. I have no problems with the names (frankly because I can't say Kirara out loud myself, so I can see why they changed it. Though it did cause me to go "Huh?" the first time the dubbed version said her name).

As for the voices, I do like some over others on each side of the dubbed/subbed fence.

Myoga - English
Jaken - Japanese
Kyoga - English
Shippo - Japanese

I guess what this means is that I'm not a snob when it comes to watching my favorite anime. I'll take it anyway I can get it. smile.gif
Shiori
I used to be one of the die-hard sub fans, but lately I've been catching the dub some and it's entertaining if nothing else. Since I've seen the series with the subs up to current episodes, I do tend to prefer them over the dub. If nothing else, the dub does supply a good laugh here and there. Jaken's voice just cracks me up because I find it so out of character. I don't think Inu Yasha's voice suits him properly, but by no means am I saying that I think Richard Cox does a crappy job, I just don't think it fits the character properly. I also feel the same way about Kagome's voice. She is a girl, but I never thought of Kagome as a girly girl. Her dubbed voice suggests otherwise. Really though, don't take this as a gripe, I'm not bashing the dub because if nothing else, they are fun to laugh at. cool.gif
Honeybee
I just don't think it's worth gouging your eyes out with a rusty spoon over, like I've seen some people claim. rolleyes.gif People can have their opinions about it, but no one can convince me that it's "Sailor Moon" bad or insulting peoples' intelligence. And it's certainly not worth shunning other IY fans over either.
jms011
i agree with ya there. i am on both sides of the fence when it comes to the voices. both english and japanese voices for Inuyasha and Kagome are the right tone, but what the #%^ happened to Kikyo and Sango in english? it sounds like they're stoned out of their minds... blink.gif
Honeybee
I'm like that too with my preferences. Pretty much split down the middle.

Voices I prefer in the dub:
Inuyasha
Shippou
Kaede
Sesshoumaru
Naraku
Kagura

Voices I prefer in the sub:
Kagome (her dub voice got better, however. Now they're about even.)
Sango
Kouga
Souta
Kohaku
Myouga
Miroku

The Rin, Kikyou, Jaken, Mama and Jiichan dub voices all sound spot on to the originals as far as I can tell. Am I forgetting anyone?
Patches
I watch the dub all the time! Granted, I prefer the Japanese a hundred fold, but I always check out the dub of shows I like. The IY dub isn't great, but it's passable. I watch it whenever I get the chance, simply for curiosity's sake. What sorts of casting jobs they did, how they interpreted a scene, etc. I always like seeing different sides of the series.
Ahsa
Whenever I can stay up to watch the dub on Adult Swim, I do it. Don't get me wrong, I like the subbed version also, but sometimes it brings a different understanding to the episode when it's in a language I'm fluent in happy.gif

So dub, sub, it really depends on the person. Can we not critisize people because of what they like? It's still Inuyasha no matter what the language.
jms011
I'm with Ahsa on this one. Whenever I'm on night shift or have a lot of homework, (seniors in high school do not get breaks) Inuyasha is on my To Do list. Rock on Sub/Dub Fans!

i dont know man i liked senior year.

but anywho. dubbs can be good on animes that talk really fast i understood FLCL much better when i watched it dubbed as well as excel saga. but with inuyasha i cant get over voice of inuyasha and how he says kagome.
it is a huge joke with some of my friends "i got to save kaGOme" with the accents all wrong but overalll though i perfer subbs, but dubbs are usefull for us slow readers.

and allows eyes to pick up more though i am getting better at reading and watching at the same time !!!! hurray
BunnySango_chan
Ok dont take me for one of those snobbish subbies, but I absolutely HATE english dubs...even though that IS my fluent language, it's just not authentic. Granted, I was a dubbie fan in my younger days of anime fandom(listen to me laugh.gif ) I was into Sailor Moon and DBZ and Pokemon and all that other "good" stuff lol but when I started watching subs then watched dubs I said to myself "wow the originals are so much better than this" they often change the lines to fit the mouth movements to the point where its not even simmalar anymore. I remember they called Kagura a "wind sorceress" and im like WTF!! Also the english voices are tragically unfit for they characters. Kagome sounds incredibly annoying, Inuyasha sounds like he sucks in helium, and miroku sounds like hes on drugs too(it was mentioned earlier that sango and kikyou do laugh.gif ), and I'm pretty sure they dont talk old ENGLISH in feudal JAPAN!! The one thing I do like though is that they didnt change the background music or sound effects...at least THAT is authentic smile.gif

QUOTE
"i got to save kaGOme"

I find this mispronounciation EXTREMELY ANNOYING...I swear they do it on purpose just to piss people like me off mad.gif I think if you are gonna dub an anime at LEAST get the names right. Though I understand the whole Kirara/Kilala thing because of the way they say it in japanese and KiRAWRah sounds reallllly bad

No offense to people who like the dubs, this is only my humble opinion, I am not trying to be a "holier than thou" subbie trying to "convert" any dubbies. as said before, it's all a matter of preference.

Anyways, lets turn to the humans who do the voices. In episode 4, "the Toad that would be prince," the young boy (name excapes me) is also the voice of Nightcrawler on Xmen Evolution. The American fans under 14 know who I'm talking about. But I don't know any of the other voices.

I'm not going to argue with your preferences, I just want to comment that I've never seen fans of any anime get so specific over how they pronounce character names in a dub before. This level of reaction is always surprising to me.

Almost the entirety of the English IY cast is in X-Men Evolution. It's kinda funny. But that's because it's Ocean Group, and they tend to stick together.

As for the mispronounciations... I don't really find the pronounciation of Kagome's name as irritating as some of the others, but, yeah, it's still irritating. I can't stand the way they pronounce the "maru" names. I was on the floor in fits of laughter the first time I heard them try to say "Kageroumaru". If only they could figure out that it's "MAHru" and not "muhROO", they'd make life so much easier for themselves when it comes to saying those longer names.
Kuro
I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't mind the pronunciations, then... wink.gif

Actually, I think hearing them pronounce the names "Japanese-style" would sound rather... forced. You know, it's more natural-sounding in English to saw the name "Kagome," as "Kuh-GO-may," rather than the Japanese pronunciation which really has no hard accents.

When I first heard them say the name "Kagura," I cringed, even though the pronunciation was more "accurate" than others have been... it sounded totally forced in English. It was like, "Did they get someone in there and try to teach them how to pronounce Japanese in a day or something?"

So I don't have problems with the dubs (save for Kaede and Kohaku, and sometimes Souta), because they sound like they're naturally speaking. Thing is, the speaking itself, versus the ACTING are different beasts. I don't like the way most of the characters come across in the dub. Their voices do nothing but bring out the most annoying qualities in each character for me. Like Inuyasha's whineyness. Inuyasha is NOT whiney. He's a jerk sometimes, but not whiney. XD And Kagome's... GAH, I shall not even GET into Kagome's voice.

The Japanese voices brought across more likeable qualities, like more humor, and more... eh, energy, I suppose. With the Japanese language, I feel much more, er, appreciative of each character.

Ah well, the dub could be worse. They could call Kagura "KAH-goo-ruh," (where "kah" rhymes with "nah") and Kanna "CAN-nuh."

Although I have to admit, hearing Yasha rhyme with "Trasha" makes my head spin. XD

And for the record, I prefer the subs myself. But isn't that obvious with who's plastered all over my sig? wink.gif

oh god...that whole thing is just retarded....Inu Trasha.....they make kouga sound more immature and annoying than he already is..and whoever said that the acting is bad you're 100% RIGHT like the one that sticks in my mind is the first episode when kikyou looks as though the flames of hell are around her shes so pissed, and they give a wimpy "Inu-YAHshawww" i mean..THEY TOTALLY BUTCHERED THE DRAMA OF THAT SCENE!!
jms011
i am so agreeing with you on this one patches. BunnySango_chan, you're batting a thousand.

Amen. cool.gif

I'm all for going to their little recording studio in Vancuver and being the English out of them. Lets make them learn to SAY IT RIGHT!!!!!
Kagome is NOT Ku-GO-may. And Kikyou is NOT Kick-ye-o. (Anyone notice?)

Am I rambling? So What!
The Subs are better for pronounciation, but I still like hearing it in my language.

Also, when did Tessaiga learn to break barriars? I know it was after the hanyou kid that was seperated from mommy and before the attack of the killer hairball (yes, the kats from china.)

QUOTE

yea, I did.

I'm wondering if these people even LOOKED at the show before they started dubbing it dry.gif They totally ruin the show and make it seem childish and annoying.

Annother mispronounciation I have discovered is "Shih-POH" (Shippou), annunciating the "pou" instead of the "Shi"

about 20 times, and you pray for him to stop!

Really??? Cuz I also heard some voices from hamtaro >< Kagome sounds exactly the same as laura, and that voice is really annoying coming out of her mouth

Also Shippou reminds me of hamtaro, but the voice is kind of suiting for HIM, since he's a lil kid, but still. most voices in the english dub are annoying to me...and...did anyone who watches the subs and dubs notice that in the dubs some characters talk INCREDIBLY SLOW???!! Well, I tend to think that it's because 1. they're trying to match the lip-movements, which will make speech sound a bit forced anyway, and 2. English is naturally much slower-sounding than Japanese. And it's a softer-sounding language. In Japanese, it always sounds like they're going a million miles an hour happy.gif

Well, english/american dubs never look great with the mouth moving.
Since english is too flat :P while japanese works with the movements perfectly,
since the language goes up and down (so does my native language,
I use at least 40 tones per sentence with my Stockholm slang XD,
and Stockholm-ish is what you dub with - so it comes out pretty good).

pretty good - I know some americans I know hates me for this,
but when we dub an american cartoon into swedish,
the quality actually gets better than the original :P I know how it sounds,

And, yes, since Viz dubs Hamtaro, a lot of the IY voices appear in there as well.

Anyone wanna make bets on what "Bakuryuuha" is gonna be translated into?

1. DRAGON TWISTER!
How the heck Bandai got that outta Bakuryuuha is beyond me. But well, I guess it sounds pretty cool. I guess the "ryuu" mighta given them some ideas, even though the name really has nothing to to with dragons at all.

2. EXPLODING CURRENT BLAST!
Well, it IS the literal meaning, I tells you! Part of me wants them to actually USE that just to hear Richard Cox say that mouthful. Over and over. *heh-heh-heh* *cough*aintgotnuthinonkappei*cough*

3. DIE, YOUKAI, DIE!
Which just would be amusing, period. Or better yet, "Tet-sigh-guh's Ultimate Attack!"

4. ULTIMA BLAST!
...okay, yes, I've been playing a little too much Final Fantasy right now, so I'll just shut up with that.

Or do you suppose they'll let us have some fun and leave it as "Bakuryuuha?" Hehehe. Go, Richard, go! SCREAM THAT NAME! WOOHOO! biggrin.gif

My guess is just Dragon Twister, as thats what the video games made it into.
